How On-Chain Lending Sets Rates (And Why an Agent Can Beat Your Bank)

Your savings account pays what the bank decides to pay. You have no say, no visibility, and usually no idea the rate changed. On-chain lending markets work in almost the opposite way, and understanding how they set rates explains why an agent can earn you more without taking wild risks.
In an on-chain lending market, the interest rate is not set by a committee. It is set by supply and demand, live, in public. People supply dollars or other assets into a shared pool. Borrowers take from the pool and pay interest. When lots of borrowers want funds and the pool is heavily used, the rate rises to attract more suppliers and ration demand. When borrowing cools and the pool is mostly idle, the rate falls. You can watch this happen in real time, and the formula is open for anyone to read.
Two consequences follow. First, there is no single "right" rate, only the best available rate right now, and it moves. A pool paying well this morning can be average by evening as suppliers pile in. Second, your money is only earning its best when it sits in the pool with the best risk-adjusted rate, and staying there means moving as conditions change.
No human does that well by hand. You would be checking rates across many pools all day, doing the math on fees for each move, and deciding whether a slightly higher rate justifies the cost and risk of switching. That is the Lending Optimizer's entire job. It watches rates across venues, calculates whether a move is worth it net of fees, and rebalances idle balances toward the better risk-adjusted rate, then keeps watching.
The guardrails are the same ones that make any of this trustworthy. The optimizer reads and proposes. Your funds live in a wallet you control, not on a company server. Nothing executes until you confirm, so a rebalance is a suggestion you approve, never a surprise.
The bank changes your rate without telling you and keeps the upside. An open lending market shows you the rate, and an agent keeps you in the best one. That is the trade worth making.
